The Department of Physical Science at Auburn Montgomery offers an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Science. An option to the degree is available to students specifically in chemistry.

The Physical Science Curriculum is designed for students who are interested in working in industrial or governmental laboratories or who plan to continue their education in professional or graduate schools. AUM graduates in Physical Science have been very successful in these areas with an employment and graduate school acceptance rate of virtually one hundred percent. AUM graduates have pursued masters and doctoral degrees in schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rice, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, and UAB.

The acceptance rate to health-professional schools is also very high - one of the highest in the Southeast. Pre-medical, pre-dental, and pre-optometry graduates have successfully completed doctoral programs at UAB, South Alabama, Florida, Johns Hopkins, Meharry, The Military Medical School, Morehouse, Toronto, Vanderbilt, Harvard and Yale.

The Department of Physical Sciences is located on the second and third floors of Goodwyn Hall, a modern science and education building with comfortable surroundings and well-equipped laboratories. All lecture and laboratory sessions in chemistry are taught by individuals holding a doctoral degree. No graduate students are used for instruction at any level.
Degree Requirements

Students majoring in Physical Science study a balanced curriculum designed to meet the requirements for both the major and the university. A flexible program with ample electives allows each student to pursue his or her specific interests in Physical Science and to select courses outside the major if he or she is particularly interested in other topics. For example, some students choose to emphasize the biochemical sciences or place a special emphasis on business, computer, or liberal arts courses. To assist them with curriculum and career decisions, students are encouraged to discuss their degree program and career plans with faculty members in the department.
