Information Systems and Decision Science
The Information Systems and Decision Science Department offers AUM students a major in Information Systems with four separate areas of specialization in the information systems field.
Information Management specialization - Careers in management of information resources.
System Development specialization - Careers in systems analysis, software design, implementation, project management, software architect, programming in Java or dot Net.
Data Communications and Administration specialization - Careers in design and deployment of networks, network security, disaster and contingency planning and database administration
Data Storage Management specialization - Careers in modern technologies for large-scale, high availability data storage using technologies such as storage area networks (SAN), server virtualization and database management systems.
The program of study in Information Systems is designed to provide the student with the background to perform the functions necessary in business information processing and management. In addition, the student can acquire sufficient knowledge so that he or she will be able to assume supervisory responsibilities in an information systems environment and lead strategic initiatives using information technologies for competitive advantage.
The Information Systems and Decision Science Department manages the University’s Storage Area Network Center of Excellence (SANCoE) which is one of only four such facilities that are part of a university curriculum. The SANCoE is the result of a partnership with Hewlett-Packard (HP), UNISYS, Integrated Computer Solutions, the Alabama Technology Foundation, Auburn Montgomery and the School of Business to address the critical need for data storage professionals in the local area.
Our faculty is diverse in background an particularly well-suited to instruct students at both the undergraduate (B.S.B.A) and graduate (M.B.A.) levels in the ever-changing area of information systems.
