JA 3720 Introduction to Japanese Linguistics 3 credits
Prerequisite: JA 2702 Japanese III
An advanced study in the vocalic and consonantal systems of the Japanese language. It analyzes special features of the language: phonetics, phonemics, grammatical patterns and their specific difficulties, words, sentence structures and idiomatic usage. There will be intensified and specialized exercises in pronunciation and written expression.
The course includes a complete grammar analysis and will be operated with the help of language laboratory and other audio-visual means.
